The attractive, seaside resort of Royan is one of several popular holiday resorts on the Côte de Beauté. The area was almost completely destroyed during World War II but was rebuilt in the modern style you can see there today. The coast in this area is divided in to small bays and you can choose from relaxing coves or larger lively beaches.
The Grande Conche is the town’s main beach stretching for two kilometres and with glittering blue sea. The striped tents you see can be hired and are useful for changing and shade from the mid day sun. The beach offers a range of water sports for the more energetic including windsurfing. The beach area also has a path which can be used for walking and cycling.
Royan also has a port and marina where you can see everything from tiny fishing vessels to large luxurious yachts. Around the marina there are many bars and restaurants serving tasty local specialities which include Crepes and seafood dishes.
Bonne Anse S.A is one of our favourite holiday parks in the area. The four star site is packed with facilities including a stunning pool complex with water slides and chutes. Sun worshipers will love the large open sun terraces and there are several beaches within easy reach.
We also like Palmyre Loisirs Holiday Park which is perfect for families with young children. Situated in a pine forest the site is large and lively with plenty of child friendly facilities including clubs, play areas and shallow pools for children.
