Camping Le Capeyrou
The Dordogne is the perfect base for canoeing and boating and this park is right on the banks of the river. The ancient Périgord village and the fortified walls of Beynac-et-Cazenac are great for exploring on foot and you’re just a short walk from a number of restaurants and supermarkets.
The park has two superb swimming pools and there’s fresh water fishing in the river, as well as organised canoe trips with two choices of route and the option of stopping for a picnic on the way back to camp. The town of Beynac with its beautiful cobbled streets is one of the prettiest in France and has a wonderful château that was once besieged by Richard the Lionheart.
Camping Le Capeyrou has just 100 luxurious safari tents so the park is small and intimate. These are the height of luxury – they sleep six people and have two furnished bedrooms, a spacious living area, electricity and a fully equipped kitchen. There’s also outdoor furniture so you can sit out and enjoy the view.
There’s so much to see and do in the Dordogne – the Fête de la Musique in Sarlat is an international festival of music and the Piu di Voce is a musical extravaganza that takes place across six regions of the Périgord. For an unforgettable experience, you can take a night time hot air balloon from the Château Milandes – or tour the caves at Gouffre de Proumeussac.
